Spring cleaning is not only tradition, it helps give you that fresh-start feeling that is motivating to all.
Below are some very easy, inexpensive DIY spring cleaning tips to keep your home feeling so fresh and so clean.
Get your microwave looking new by squeezing a lemon into 1/2 cup of water and microwaving for 2-3 minutes. Allow the cup to stand in the microwave for 5 minutes without opening the door. The steam will loosen up the dirt and grime and all you will have to do is wipe it clean.
Use white vinegar to dissolve built up mineral deposits that build up on your shower heads and faucets. These deposits build up for time which cause reduced pressure and water flow.
Fill a zip lock bag with white vinegar and secure it over the shower heads and faucets with a rubber band. Leave it overnight. Remove the bag and run the shower/faucet 15 second. VOILA! All clean!
Have pesky pet hair on your carpet? Use a squeegee! The rubber edge of a squeegee is a great tool in helping remove pet hair from carpets and rugs. Finish by running a vacuum cleaner to catch any of the hairs that are still on the surface.
Dust doesn’t just settle on the floor, walls and windows need loving too! Use a damp towel to wipe down walls and blinds (starting from top and working your way to the bottom) Also remove and wipe down the window screens.
One of the most overlooked, yet most important part of maintaining your home is replacing your HVAC filter. Not only will this keep your HVAC working but a clean filter will catch dust particles that may otherwise float around in your home causing irritation and allergies.
Is the grout in your shower/bathroom looking dingy? spray some carpet cleaner such as Resolve on it and leave for 5-10 minutes. Then wipe away for brighter and whiter grout.
Do not forget about the garbage disposal! With the disposal turned OFF, scrub the outside with an old/inexpensive toothbrush. Then place a few lemon slices on the sink hole and allow hot water to run for a minute with the disposal on, the lemon water will clean the disposal blades. Turn the disposal OFF and then remove the lemon slices and throw away.
